1972 marked his year for him as a debutant professional singer with his first record for TAGORE songs from the renowned music company HMV. Since then there was no looking back... 1973 onwards there has been innumerable well appreciated albums & discs, be it Nazrul songs, classical based (ragpradhan), modern songs all had a refined touch & critical acclaim. He then joined Kolkata Doordarshan as a music director. This took him to another level of esteem & recognition. Along with all this he was already an approved singer in All India Radio.

Among all his accomplishments one that makes a special place in his heart is when he got the offer to render his melodious voice for sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar for his directorial venture that marked the colossal occasion that marked 300 years of  ‘City kolkatta’. He still remembers fondly Ravi Shankar ji’s  heartfelt blessing after he sang for him.  
 
Then came the time & chance where he was introduced to the legendary music composer Sri R.D.Burman. Mr Burman was so impressed by Ramanuj’s vocals that on meeting ramanuj he showed his excitement like a child telling him that how much he loved his voice & that soon he is going to give a break to him. Gem of a person that Burman was, he did keep his words & called upon Ramanuj exactly after 10 days of his promise. Under his direction he sang for many films like, Jhankar, Apon amar apon,  for most of it went on to become quite popular of the time. At the same time also he sang under other reputed music directors like Swapan Chakraborty, Sreedhar Pharhke, Raghunath Seth etc.

While in Mumbai he had the honour & pleasure of working with renowned singers like Md. Rafi saab, Anup Jalota,Anuradha paudwal, Suresh Wadkar  with his direction. Back home proficient singers Smt. Runa Laila, Haimanti Shukla, Smt. Sandhya Mukherjee all hummed to his melodious tunes & direction.

1988 onwards he was invited to various countries like UK ,USA and Canada where he has performed a number of shows in various genre & have been  thankful to all the people over there for their overwhelming love, respect & support. This love & respect was marked specially by the Mayor of New Jersey IN THE YEAR 2000 with his“CITATION.”

In most recent time he was given the opportunity to compose the theme music for the Asian Car Rally which is another feather in his cap.

Since 1988, Ramanuj has been touring extensionally in India & Countries like U. K., U.S.A. and Canada. A few music albums composing of Nazrulgiti, Ragprodhan modern songs &Hindi Bhajans in his voice were produced and released by Music India &super cassettes heading music companies like HMV Polydore, Music India Limited, B.S.P., Cozmic Harmony, R.P. Techvision have produced and released Ramanuj’s Music Albums.

In 2002 he composed the music for a multimedia show named “Rabi - O- Radha”. The essence of this project was dance and drama based on Rabindranath’s “Bhanu Singher Padabali”. The most remarkable aspect of the project was that he was honored to compose new tunes for some of lyrics written by Tagore that were left without a tune by ‘Gurudev’. Many distinguished singers including Pandit Jasraj & Kavita Krishnamurti lent their beautiful voices for this melodious compositions.

The summer of 2011 has been a pleasant affair with Dhaka (Bangladesh). Ramanuj was honored to be invited by Dhaka’s prestigious Nazrul Institute Ministry of Cultural Affairs for International  Nazrul Conference . He was enthralled  by their love & affection.

He remains grateful & indebted to his audience & admirers for their appreciation, encouragement and best wishes. He gets immense pleasure to fascinate the audience before him with his music. His only prayer to the almighty is that he may carry on regaling the ears of his admirers successfully with his performances from time to time & forever.
